1. How many and what classes are there?
Answer: None. This system has 3 Character Concepts but rather than limiting what your character can do and learn, the way standard RPG classes do, the Concepts in Renaissance: The Rebirth simply determine your character's starting strengths and weaknesses. After Character Creation, what Concept your character began as makes little difference in who and what they can become.

2. How many levels are there?
Answer: None, basically. Spell levels and Extraordinary and Supernatural Abilities are measured by their level but characters do not advance by level. Instead, players spend experience points (xp) to raise their skills, abilities, HP, Stats, etc. With the excpeption of your character's Reaction score, every numerical aspect of your character can be purchased or raised by spending the experience points awarded by the Game Master.

3. How many spells are there?
Answer: Unknown. Rather than providing a list of spells from which players must choose Renaissance: The Rebirth provides players with the tools, mechanics and instructions necessary to create their own spells. In this way, players can taylor their character's every spell to their exact specifications and desire.

4. What type of system is this?
Answer: Percentile. Nearly every dice rolling aspect of Renaissance: The Rebirth involves rolling a percentile (1d100 or 2d10) die. See the download of Chapter 1, Basics for a little more information about the system and other basic roleplaying termonology.

5. Are you associated with Wizards of The Coast/Chaosium/White Wolf/TSR/Etc.?
Answer: No. This is an independant project and not currently affiliated with any other game developer.

6. Why is it that lower is better in the game . . . isn't that really reminiscent of AD&D, why wouldn't you add your roll and your skill and then subtract any penalties to determine the amount you succeeded by?
Answer: Well, to begin with, it's a percentile system. If you have a 30% chance of success you roll a percentile die and have to roll between 1 and 30. Since it is a percentile system, you're rolling a 1d100 (or 2d10) and are also going to have a pretty high (low average of 30) skill value. If you were to add this skill to your roll you would end up with with around a 60 to 100 value for your roll and skill. There are very few penalties a character is going to encounter that would result in this being a failed roll if you were to add your skill and roll together and then subtract the penalties. Additionally, adding your skill and roll together and subtracting the penalties would just be a 1d100 version of the D20 system and, while it is an excellent system, not what we were going for with this one.

As for it's similarity to AD&D, that's just wrong. In AD&D you have a base value from which you subtract any BONUSES and add any PENALTIES. Then, using this modified number you roll a D20 and have to roll over this modified value. In Renaissance: The Rebirth, you have your base skill/stat/whatever value, you add your bonuses and subtract your penalties and the resulting number is the number which you must roll on or below in order to succeed.

7. Can I be a Troll?
Answer: There are rules to support playing non-standard character races. Ultimately, it is up to your GameMaster to decide whether or not your may play a Troll. Many GameMasters are open to bribes, if they refuse your request the first time, offer them food, drink or a whole meal and try again, often this will be sufficient leverage to get a "yes" out of them for game related questions.

8. Do you have rules for Sci-Fi stuff like laster pistols and mutant powers?
Answer: No. This book focuses strictly on the medieval fantasy setting. The rules are easily adapted to a modern or futuristic setting but they are not specifically supplied. If interest and demand is high enough however, a Modern/Sci-Fi edition of the system will become available later on.

9. When a Modern/Sci-Fi setting becomes available, can I be a Space Troll?
Answer: *chuckle* Again, this would be up to your GameMaster (see question number 7) but yes, there will be rules for playing non-standard character races in the Modern/Sci-Fi settings later on, assuming we decide to produce them.

10. Do you plan on publishing any ready made adventure modules or perhaps posting some on your web site?
Answer: As time allows, yes, some will be posted on the website. Currently we don't have any planned for publishing, but *shrug* you never know.

11. Do you have rules in place for radiation, both as an attack/spell and as a hazard in a Modern/Sci-Fi setting?
Answer: Again, see question number 8. At this time such rules are not present in the current version of Renaissance: The Rebirth. The rules are easily enough created however and will be included in any Modern/Sci-Fi published in the future.

12. What happens if my character ends up with 0 or less dex due to penalties from injury, armour, etc.?
Anwer: You accumulate negative EC for every point of dex your character's effective dex score is below 0.

13. There are conflicting armour penalties. Which do I use?
Answer: Average them together and use the resulting number.
